Sports Technology and Service Innovation: From Spectator Experience to Mass Participation

The purpose of this panel is to discuss the driving mechanisms, service transformation, and the integration of technology within the sports industry toward the year 2030. The panel includes two sessions:

This session will focus on innovative profit models for professional leagues (such as CPBL), discussing the integration of "Team Taiwan" branding with the sports fan economy, and enhancing spectator experiences through service design and stadium management.

Professor Ming-Hung Lin is currently Professor and Chair of the Graduate Institute of Sports and Health Management, College of Management, National Chung Hsing University. He previously served as Associate Dean of the College of Management. Professor Lin received his PhD in Sport Management from the University of Kansas, with a minor in Educational Technology, and is currently pursuing a Master of Liberal Arts in Psychology at Harvard Extension School.

His research interests include sport management, psychology and human behavior, and technology-supported innovation and development. He has published numerous articles in international journals and has led several research and international exchange projects supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Sports. In addition to his academic work, Professor Lin has long been involved in professional athletics affairs and public-sector advisory work, serving as a committee member and counselor for the Ministry of Sports and Changhua County. He has also served in technical roles at the World University Games and Asian Athletics Championships and holds certifications from World Athletics. A former elite high jumper, he represented Taiwan at the Asian Athletics Championships and the East Asian Games.

Currently serving as the Chairman of the Taiwan Institute of Sports Industry (on secondment from ITRI), Chairman Cheng brings extensive experience in intelligent technology R&D and cross-domain service system development. He previously led the Service Systems Technology Center (SSTC) at ITRI, driving three core focus areas — Smart Healthcare/Care, Smart Logistics/Supply Chain, and Culture/Sports Technology — while integrating cross-sector stakeholders to build system integration solutions and shape industrial ecosystems. 

He is now dedicated to advancing  the Taiwan Institute of Sports Industry‘s four strategic priorities: Sport for All Development, Sports Event  Consulting and Support, Sports Industry Promotion, and Cross-Sector Innovation, with a vision of merging technology and industry to actively drive the transformation and upgrading of Taiwan's sports industry.

Recognized as one of Taiwan’s Top 10 Distinguished Engineers and Outstanding I.T. Elite, Chairman Cheng has led his teams to win prestigious international accolades including the Edison Awards, R&D 100 Awards, and CES Innovation Awards, reflecting his sustained commitment to technology innovation and industrial impact.

➤ Prof. Chung-Long Yu / Graduate Institute of Sport and Health Management, NCHU

Professor Chung-Long Yu (Charles) is a Professor of Strategy at the Graduate Institute of Sports and Health Management, National Chung Hsing University. He earned his Ph.D. in Strategic Management from King’s College London. Prior to that, he completed both his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Physical Education and Sports Science at Taipei Physical Education College.

His research focuses on competitive strategy, blue ocean strategy, ESG initiatives, consumer behavior, and marketing strategy. Professor Yu has served as a member of a national think tank and as a consultant to various companies and organizations. His insights have been widely featured in major newspapers and media outlets. In addition to his academic achievements, he was selected as one of Taiwan’s top 50 high school baseball players and was invited to participate in the Nike All Taiwan Baseball Camp (1997–1998).

This session delves into the commercialization and industrial transformation of leisure sports. By integrating technology into sports services, we analyze how sports communities and event services drive industry supply chains and marketing momentum. Furthermore, it explores strategies for international expansion while addressing sustainable development goals (SDGs) within the global sports market.

➤ Yu (Kevin) Huang / Professor, Department of Kinesiology at National Tsing Hua University

Dr. Huang specializes in sport policy, sport event management, sport marketing, and sports sustainability. Dr. Huang has published more than 30 articles in academic journals and several book chapters. His sports marketing textbook was the first of its kind in Taiwan.

He has been involved in various international multi-sport events, including the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games, the 2009 Taipei Deaflympics, the 2017 Taipei World University Games, and the 2025 Taipei & New Taipei World Master Games. He also gained valuable practical experience as director of the Department of Sports in Kaohsiung City. In addition, he is one of the pioneers of the sustainability movement in Taiwan.

Assistant Professor at the Department of Physical Education, Chinese Culture University, holding a Ph.D. from the Sports Coaching Institute of Chinese Culture University. He serves as Chief Commissar of the 2026 Taiwan Cyclist League and Director of the Taiwan Cyclist Federation (TCF) Eastern Center, Hualien County Sports Center.

His experience includes serving as Secretary of the Republic of China Sports Federation (1994–1998) and National Head Coach for the 1990 and 1994 Asian Games and the 1992 Olympic Games (1985–1994).

The 2026 Taiwan Cycling Road League features individual road races and team time trials, aiming to elevate team performance and national cycling standards, while promoting local tourism and advancing ESG sustainability principles through sport.

With a strong background in the digital and telecommunications sectors, she previously held executive roles including Chief Commercial Officer at VeeTIME Corp. and General Manager at RockMobile. Sherry brings deep expertise in marketing strategy, cross-functional integration, business development, and business model innovation.
Her leadership philosophy is committed to fostering sustainable industry growth through ecosystem collaboration and mutual development. She holds an EMBA in Global Business from National Taiwan University (NTU), with a focus on International Strategic Management.

Yen-Yao Yao is the founder of SportsNote (運動筆記), Taiwan's leading sports community platform.
He successfully transformed his personal passion for running into an influential business, widely credited as a key digital driving force behind Taiwan's road-running boom.
Currently, he serves as Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) of H2U (H2U 永悅健康), Taiwan's leading digital health company. In this role, he has expanded his focus from running to holistic wellness, leveraging sports and health big data to drive the digital transformation of Taiwan's health and wellness industry.
